Loudoun County Residents met at Belmont Ridge Middle School to urge the SCC to require Dominion Energy to bury the transmission lines underground for Aspen Route between two substations.
- The main concerns were:
- Impact on property values along the route
- Effects on school expansion plans
- Potential health risks for nearby residents and students
- Interference with helicopter access to Inova Loudoun Hospital
- Loudoun residents and elected officials urged the State Corporation Commission (SCC) to require Dominion Energy to bury a portion of the proposed Aspen to Golden transmission line.
- The proposed 9.4-mile line would run from the Aspen substation to the Golden substation near Data Center Alley.
- Nearly all 41 speakers at the public hearing supported burying 3 miles of the line along Rt. 7 and shifting the cost to high-wattage users like data centers.
- Local officials, including state senators, delegates, and county supervisors, advocated for undergrounding the lines.
- Real estate appraisers estimated a potential $252 million loss in property values if the lines are built above ground.
- The final stage of the case will be held in Richmond on September 18, where parties will present their arguments to the SCC.
